Food & Nutrition

Through our Food & Nutrition focus area, we strive to reduce food insecurity and increase access to healthy food for low-income individuals and families in Santa Clara and Northern San Benito counties.

The Challenge:

  • According to 2021 data, 7.5% of Santa Clara County residents and 8.3% of San Benito County residents are food insecure. 
  • Food is a key driver of health. There is a strong correlation between food insecurity and negative health outcomes, including increased rates of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. 
  • Consistent access to healthy food helps prevent the development of negative health outcomes and helps people manage chronic conditions. 

Food & Nutrition Funding Priorities

At 品凤楼, we believe that every resident should have access to healthy food that helps them lead healthier lives. We support organizations, programs, and projects working towards this goal through the following Funding Priorities:

  • Investing in food organizations through infrastructure and capacity-building support to ensure that organizations are properly equipped to meet the food and nutritional needs of residents.
  • Supporting food programs that remove barriers to healthy food access, including by increasing enrollment and participation in federal programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). 
  • Investing in policies, practices, and systems that strengthen healthy food policies and the local food ecosystem.
